Office of the state commissioner for person with disabilities in association with director of social welfare and Sports Authority of Goa organized International chess tournament for blind and visually impaired person which was inaugurated today at Conference room Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium Bambolim Goa (08.01.2024) by Mr. Nilesh Cabral (Hon’ble MLA, Curchorem Constituency) and Ex Chairman of Goa Chess Association, Hon’ble Mr.Subhash Faldesai, Minister for Social Welfare, Archives & Archaeology, River and Navigation presided the function. Welcome speech and brief introduction of the Tournament was given by Dr.Manish Thool, Hon’ble Minister for Social welfare in his speech informed about the purpose of the Purple fest and informed about the various sports which are going to be held from 8th January 2024 till 2024.Minister also welcomed the foreign delegates who are participating the event .Nilesh Cabral spoken on the promotion of the chess among the visually impaired and the initiatives taken for involvement of Goan youth with visual impairment.
31player from the six countries namely Uzbekistan,krygyz Republic,Sweden,USA,Austria and India are participating for the tournament. 2 players from Goa Mr. Sanjay Kavlekar and Amrut Naik are also participating in the tournament. The tournament will be from 8th January till 13th January 2024.
Vote of the thanks was proposed by Kishan Ganguly 8 times National champion for India and International medal winner, Volunteers from Goa University and Salgaonkar law college assisted the players. Compere of the programme is done by Sudesh Gaude.
