Players Selection – Rules & Regulations

Procedure for selection of players from State to Zonal level:

1) Top 4 players of previous AICFB National Championship are directly qualified for AICFB National Championship and Players ranked 5th to 14th are directly qualified to their respective Zonal championship.
2) Players whose rating is above 2000 as on date of the announcement of selection cycle are directly selected to their respective Zonal Championship.
3) 15 players or 15 percent of total participants who have played 80% of total rounds in State Championship. Whichever is higher are selected to their respective Zones.
4) Top 3 Female players from State Championship (excluding female winners of main list)
5)Top 5 Junior players (excluding the Junior winners of main list)
6) 1 organising entry can be given to organisers of all the state championship to participate in the respective zonal championship (Upon request)
7) 1 organising entry can be given to organisers of Zonal Championship to participate in respective Zonal championship.
8) If any selected player from any State doesn’t take part in Zonal for a genuine reason, then a substitute can be taken up to 3 spots based on the final standings of the respective State Championship. Substitutes can be taken for maximum 3 spots.

Procedure for selection of Players from Zonal to AICFB National Chess Championship:

Total there are 56 spots in Nationals.
1) Top 4 players from previous AICFB National Chess Championship.
2) Top 2 women players from recent AICFB National Women Chess Championship.
3) Top 2 junior players from recent AICFB National Junior Chess Championship.
4) 48 players are selected from 4 Zones. Each zone gets fixed spots according to their rated players strength. A minimum of 7 spots are allocated to each Zone.
5) If any selected player from any zone doesn’t take part in Nationals for a genuine reason, then a substitute can be taken up to 3 spots based on the final standings of the respective zonal Championship. Substitutes can be taken for maximum 3 spots.
6) Those players who don’t take part in the national championship after selecting from their respective zonal Championship are banned from playing in any AICFB tournament for a year.

Genuine reason refers to Hospitalization, Exams, marriage and any other reasons which are reviewed by the Executive Committee.

Procedure of selection of players to National Juniors:
Top 10 juniors’ players of each Zones are selected to the AICFB National Junior Championship.

Procedure of selection of players to AICFB National Women Championship:
All the female participants of any AICFB approved tournament after the announcement of selection cycle are eligible to participate in AICFB National Women Championship.
